What is Manual Osteopathy?

A watch contains gears and springs all working in a perfect harmonious unit.  Should one of these to break or seize up, the watch would fail in its task.  As discovered by the founder of Osteopathy, Dr. Taylor Stills, the body functions similarly as a unit.  When it is compromised due to posture or injury for example, the circulation, nerve supply and hormone excretion, etc. are also compromised.  An Osteopath’s role lies in diagnosing and treating the issues that inhibit health thus restoring balance in the body through natural, hands-on techniques.

Dr. Stills discovered that the body has an innate, natural ability to regulate and heal itself when the fluids (blood, lymph, synovial, etc.) can circulate freely - without obstruction.

Any obstruction that impedes the circulation of any of these fluids within the body is the focus of osteopathic assessment and treatment.  These barriers may take the form of structural and/or non-structural blockages such as twists, curves, pulls, as well as misaligned bones, organs or tissues.

By using precise evaluation techniques, the Osteopathic Manual Practitioner can determine the origin and effects of the obstruction allowing him to devise an individual treatment plan to remove the blockages.
